The Healthy Hound

Your dog is a beloved companion, your most devoted pal. In
return, he or she depends entirely on you to provide the best
diet, health care, environmental conditions, exercise, and,
of course, love. Isn't that the least you can do?

HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR POOCH?

Every breed has certain health issues and risks. Spaying and neutering keeps the canine population in check and lowers the risk of mammary and testicular cancer.  So how does your dog's health rate? Have you ever wondered how old your dog is in people years?

FEED ME

Proper nutrition is the foundation of your dog's health. He or she requires virtually the same nutrients that you do. Poor diet can be the root of numerous health issues, behavior problems, cancers, and other life-threatening illnesses. Every dog is an individual and one diet is not perfectly suited for all dogs.

GOOD GROOMING

Regular grooming of your dog's coat, nails, ears, and teeth is vital to his or her overall wellbeing. It's also critical in the detection of parasites that cause life-threatening diseases and is an ideal way to do regular check ups at home.

VET CHECK

Finding a Vet whom you trust and is a good listener is also important. The fact is, you know your dog best and can provide key observations to assist in a veterinary evaluation. Have you had a particular experience with a vet that you'd like to share?

ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS

Acute conditions and chronic illnesses are successfully treated by Holistic Veterinarians who practice complementary and alternative veterinary therapies. Share your experiences with alternative therapies.

IS PET INSURANCE IN YOUR FUTURE?

After the third trip to the emergency Vet in a month, it dawns on you
that your pooch is active and, unfortunately, prone to accidents. Perhaps
it's time to invest in Pet Insurance. Here are two reputable options:
www.PetsBest.com, www.gopetplan.com and www.petinsurance.com.

Or check out what other dog owners do on The Wag.

VASCILATING ON VACCINATING

Over the past few years, the suggested protocol for canine vaccinations has changed due to mounting evidence that over vaccination can cause severe allergic reactions, and contribute to neurological and immune system disorders. So how do you protect your pet without overdoing it?

PLAY BY PLAY

Daily walks or runs and play dates with pals are all ways to make certain your dog gets the exercise he or she needs to stay fit. One on one romping and organized fun and games are also important to keep your up engaged and young at heart.

K9 911

What do you do when your dog is injured or suddenly taken ill? Do you know how to get to the closest emergency vet? Are you prepared to provide emergency care? What happens to your pal if you are forced to evacuate due to a natural disaster? These are questions to answer before the unthinkable occurs.
